We have so many choices today that it is easy to lose track of the consequences of our actions and decisions. Living like kings and gods, we merrily consume, play and work our way to a place that eventually nature, society and “the fates” make us accountable for. Just as society and “the fates” have kept run amok kings and gods in line and accountable in a fierce and dreadful way, so too  nature accords us with a consequence of our behaviour and actions if we overstep our mark, lose sight of reality and live our lives in a way that causes more harm than good.

An individual’s journey for the perfect rose, the perfect fruit, the perfect life : all these things are fantastic should we take it in our hearts to walk hand in hand with the earth and nature. But seduction by the media, temporary gratification of the senses and fear of being left behind as others about us accumulate, experience and strengthen their own resource base can lull us into believing that we are going to be wiser, happier and safer.

Pesticides and the use of Agricultural chemicals and Petrochemicals have become so ingrained in our way of life that for the past few generations, people have known no other way in the mainstream of society. Our language, our food, our lifestyles, our future all reflect the path that we take, when we walk hand in hand with these manufactured chemicals, support these industries and deny our connection with nature.

I put to you that the consequences of pesticides usage is just one issue in a pandora’s box of many –  as we sit king like in front of our TV’s, and god like at our computers. Today, as the words ” Global Crisis” linger on the news, green product advertisements & stock market reports, it is a good day to wake up and smell the roses (so they too, don’t become a threatened species)!
