Radical Psychology : can we afford to live without it?

The camphor laurel tree(RHS) has a fig tree slowly smothering it. This takes time, but allows for nature to gradually transform an introduced weed into a native tree habitat with no sudden loss of habitat during the process. To the left, camphors have been cut down and mulched up to make way for a revegetation project. The weed sponsored habitat is destroyed (killed) to make way for another habitat, that has to slowly rebuild. The over all energy input for the LHS photos would appear to far outway the energy input for the RHS situation. The tree plantings (LHS) have also had the micro-habitat destroyed by herbicide spray, to ensure no weed growth as the young trees establish themselves.

Psychology and its practice, like all mainstream collective attempts to frame and explore human perceptions, has at it’s fringes ( and sometimes deep within its core)  elements of true genius and insight.  This insight has courage to dare step into the unknown with some rather radical approaches.
